Profile of Physics Department

PROGRAM OUTCOME (PO)
  • PO-1: Acquire knowledge related to academics with facts and figures related to various subjects in pure sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, etc. which will enhance their learning.
  • PO-2: Define the basic laws and to understand the basic concepts, fundamental principles, and the scientific theories related to various scientific phenomena and their relevancies in the day-to-day life.
  • PO-3: Apply the theories learnt and the skills acquired to solve real time problems.
  • PO-4: Acquire a wide range of problem solving skills, both analytical and computational and to apply them.
  • PO-5: Understand the theories which describe the nature of physical phenomena and to establish them by experiments.
  • PO-6: Develop skills of observations and drawing logical inferences from the scientific experiments.
  • PO-7: Realize how interdisciplinary knowledge and skills acquired through Generic Elective or Ability or Skill enhancement courses helps in providing better solutions and new ideas for the sustainable developments and to solve day –to-day scientific problems

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)
This undergraduate course in Physics would provide the following  opportunity to the students: 
  • PSO- 1:  To understand basic laws and fundamental concepts of physics.
  • PSO- 2:   To understand the significance of the various physical phenomena.
  • PSO- 3:   To perform experiments for understanding laws and concepts of physics.  
  • PSO- 4:   To apply the knowledge learnt from theory to solve physical problems.
  • PSO-5:   To enhance the academic abilities of the student, personal qualities and will give them an opportunity to develop as a responsible citizen.
  • PSO-6:   To produce graduates who excelled in values required for leadership to serve the rapidly evolving global community.
  • PSO- 7:   To motivate the students to pursue PG courses in reputed institutions.
  • PSO- 8:   The course introduces the students to the method of experimental physics.
  • PSO- 9:  The course would empower the students to acquire scientific skills and the required practical knowledge by performing experiments in different areas of physics.
COURSE OUTCOME (CO)
 The course outcome for all the semesters of the Bachelor Degree in Physics may be as follows: -

  Semester I AECC-I Environmental Studies and Disaster Management  Students will know about the environment, pollution, environmental laws and population ecology. They get knowledge about epidemics and pandemics and health disasters and management. Got brief idea about climate change and sustainable development along with disaster management.  
CC-I Mathematical Physics-1 Students will use complex numbers and variables to solve differential equation, Assemble special functional and their resemblance relations, Explain tensor and its basic operations, describe the basic grouping theory. The students will understand Basic and advanced mathematical tools required for physical problem, Different techniques to solve differential and integral equation, Various special function and important transformation and their application.  
CC-II Mechanics Student will understand basic mechanics of mechanical systems. They can apply Newton’s Laws of motion and conservation Law of energy, linear and angular momentum to solve advanced problems involving the dynamics motion of classical mechanical system. They can solve the equation of motion for complicated mechanical system using Langrange and Hamilton formulation. Learn to solve equation of motion of a particle for projectile motion of a body  
GE-I Mechanics and Thermal Physics After successful completion of course the student will know the basic idea of law of conservation, know the equation of motion and analyse the Kepler’s law, able to find out moment of inertia of different bodies, verify the law of transformation equation, and understand the Maxwell Boltzmann distribution law.  
AECC Ethic & Value-1  (Issues Relating to women) Develop proper attitude towards women, allow women to realize their self worth and contribute their best for betterment of society, and to attain gender equity  
    Semester II AECC-II Odia Communicative Odia course is designed to enhance student’s proficiency in the language with a focus on effective communication skills. Course outcomes like language proficiency, communication skills, Critical thinking, listening, speaking, reading , writing etc.  
CC-III Electricity and Magnetism On successful completion of the course student will gain knowledge in heat engine like refrigerators A.C and some other electrical appliances.  
CC-IV Wave and Optics On successful completion of the course student will understand different optical system like interference of thin film, diffraction grating and Fabry-Perot interferometer. To gain knowledge on classification of various laser system, understand the application of non-linear optical fibre  
GE-2 Optics and Atomic Physics After successful completion of course the student will know the basic idea of Newton’s ring, biprism, and Nichol prism. They understand about photoelectric effect, Crompton effect, exchange of atom by Frank-Hertz experiment.  
AECC Ethic & Value –II  (Values and Good Citizenship) Understand basic value of Indian Constitution, inculcating sense of volunteerism, patriotism  
Semester III SEC-I Communicative English Communicative English course is designed to enhance student’s proficiency in the English language with a focus on effective communication skills. Course outcomes like language proficiency, communication skills, Critical thinking, listening, speaking, reading , writing etc.  
CC-V Mathematical Physics- II Students will analyse first and second order differential equation, understand the fourier  sine and cosine series, Find the basic idea of complex variables and  some differential equations. They will solve different partial differential equation encountered in physical problem and draw inference from the solution and apply Fourier transformation in holography.  
CC-VI Thermal Physics After successful completion of the course student will verify the law of thermal energy, understand the Maxwell distribution law, studying the black body radiation.  
CC-VII Analog system and application On successful completion of the course students will acquire knowledge of circuits and their application, get knowledge and evaluate the boolean expression, combinational logic gate and simplification by using LC circuit, Analyse the operation of decoders, encoder, multiplexers, adder and substractor.  
GE-3 Wave and Optics After successful completion of course the student will know about law of conservation, know the equation of motion and analyse the Kepler’s law, able to find out moment of inertia of different bodies, verify the law of transformation equation, and understand the Maxwell Boltzmann distribution law.  
AECC Ethic & Value-III (Issue of drugs, tobacco and alcohol addiction) Creating awareness about health and societal hazards of drug, tobacco and alcohol addiction  
Semester IV SEC-II QLT Student will enhance their Quantitative logical thinking level after reading this.  
CC-VIII Mathematical Physics- III On successful completion of the course student will be able to solve differential equation like legendre, bessel, and hermite, apply Laplace transformation.    
CC-IX Elements of Modern Physics On successful completion of the course students will be able to Understand fermi surface and effect of Rydberg combination principle, Alpha particle scattering. Understand details of quantum Hall effect with their application.  
CC-X Digital System and Application On successful completion of the course students will acquire knowledge of operational amplifier and their application, analyze the operation of decorders, encodeers and digital multiplexer.  
GE-IV Optics and Atomic Physics After successful completion of course the student will know the basic idea of Newton’s ring, biprism, and Nichol prism. They understand about photoelectric effect, Crompton effect, exchange of atom by Frank-Hertz experiment.  
AECC Ethics &  value-IV (Ethical value for student life) To Familiarise the students with core value of academics and goals of education and to create awareness about unethical practice in academics  
Semester V CC-XI Quantum Mechanics and application On successful completion, students will understand farmi surface and effect of transporting meaning of the diagramation, cyclotral, megame, hund’s rule. Understand details of super confidential SQUID and quantum Hall effect and their application.  
CC-XII Solid State Physics On successful completion of the course students will solve the s-wave equation for the ground state of the hydrogen atom, determination of magnetic field, electron spin resonance, quantum efficiency of CCD.  
DSE-I Classical Dynamics On successful completion of the course students will understand basic mechanical example related to discrete mechanical system, Explore the application of Hamilton equation of motion.  
DSE-II Nuclear and Particle Physics On successful completion of the course student will understand nuclear force and nuclear radius, understand the concept of nuclear decay, interprete the concept and classification of various nucleus, understand different types of  nuclear accelerator and particle accelerator like cyclotron,  
AECC Ethics & value-V (Vulnerable section of society : understanding their issues) To create awareness amongst the students about the need for ensuring dignity and equality for the vulnerable section of the society such as children, elderly persons disable persons and third gender.  
Semester VI CC-XIII Electro-magnetic Theory On successful completion of course students will analyze pointing vector and their electromagnetic, magnetic and propagation in different media, understand pantrip the gem and its physical signification, acquired knowledge on several wave equation using Maxwell equations.        
CC-XIV Statistical Mechanics On completion of course students will gain knowledge about classical statistics and quantum statistics. Boltzman –Maxwell distribution Law, Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein Statistics.      
  DSE-III Nano materials and application On  complication of the course students will  know about various types of nanomaterials, various methods of preparation of nano-materials, the structure of nano-electrons and quantum electric device.      
DSE-IV Project Students will be able to assess and apply a range of research methods on a practical project of recent trend in Physics.      
AECC Ethics &  value-VI (Environment and techno ethics) To develop awareness about environment for a sustainable earth and to bring  green technology into action
